In searching for photos I came across this cabinet card image from the 1800's, of a woman who appears to have a prosthetic limb. Which I surmised rightly or wrongly would have been a rarity in those times to have been documented so.
And here lies a tantalazing clue on the verso
Yet a blow-up reveals the oddity to be nothing more than a deformation of the image; through age or abuse.
But that said I think the lady's black bows are fetching.
